One of the things that I’m most proud of during my time at NDQ is working with my fellow editors to get most of the back issues of the journal released under various open access licenses (some, of course, have already entered the public domain!). This allows for these issues to be read and shared.
This means you can download entire volumes of the Quarterly for free from the Archive page (with links to the HathiTrust repository).
Anthologies
If you’d like more of a guide to NDQ, check out one of our open access anthologies of the Quarterly.
The classic anthology, The North Dakota Quarterly Reader, edited by Elizabeth Hampsten and Stephen Dilks in the 1997. You can check it out here.
We have put together a few more specialized anthologies since then: Thomas McGrath in the Quarterly, scholarship on Ernst Hemingway in the Quarterly, and The University of North Dakota and the Great War.
Finally, for a more creative and expansive overview of NDQ, check out this innovative anthology prepared for the publication of NDQ‘s 90th volume.
Books
We’ve also released three books over the past few years all under open access licenses making them free to download, read, and share.
Ismail Gaspirali, The Muslims of Darürrahat. Translated by Çiğdem Pala Mull. Edited by Sharon Carson. 2024. Download or purchase here.
Jurij Koch, The Cherry Tree. Translated by John. K. Cox. North Dakota Quarterly Supplement Series 2. 2022. Download or purchase here.
