One of the greatest pleasures of being the editor of NDQ is getting to hang out — whether virtually or far less frequently, in person — with the spectacular folks on my editorial board and to celebrate their work. This year has been a very good one for NDQ’s editors! Not only did our fiction editor, Gilad Elbom, publish Textual Rivalries: Jesus, Midrash, and Kabbalah, but our non-fiction editor, Sheila Liming’s latest, Hanging Out: The Radical Power of Killing Time, is set to appear next week.
Sheila agreed to share a bit about her new book with us here on the NDQ blog:
In anticipation of my new book, Hanging Out, which will be published January 23rd, I decided to do some hanging out with a friend and colleague of mine, Dr. Jay Shelat. He is an assistant professor of English at Ursinus College. Jay and I have known each other for several years but, until recently, we had never actually met in person. Our hanging out was restricted to the internet. I sent Jay an advance copy of the book and arranged for a time where we could hang out and chat about it via the medium that has defined our relationship so far: Twitter.
